Mingenew Wildflower Report

Wildflower Country

25th August 2009

2009 is looking to be a fantastic year for wildflowers!

At the moment there are an abundance of yellow pom poms and everlastings in almost any popular location in the area.

Mingenew Hill is a great place to go at the moment, with wildflowers covering the sides of the Hill and veiws of green paddocks and yellow canola crops surrounding, take your camera!

Depot Hill is also displaying yellow pom poms, several varieties of orchids and yellow, pink and white everlastings. This is a worthwhile spot to visit for a bit of history and great landscapes.

Of course everyone is interested to know about Coalseam - currently Coalseam is boasting all of the above. Blue Enamel Orchids are also on show amongst the fields of everlastings if you look closely. Anytime from now on is a great time to visit the Park however the peak for the season is probably another two weeks away - dependant on the weather and rainfall.

Please note that some of these locations are not accessable during inclement weather or after heavy rain. Please drive carefully. And be sure that if you are stopping to veiw wildflowers on the roadside that you park well off the road in a easily veiwable spot in respect of other road users and your safety.

Wildflower information, road conditions, maps and brochures are available at our Visitors Centre as are some great locally made craft items. Our Visitors Centre is manned by volunteers every weekday from 9am to 4pm and on some Saturdays and Sundays. There is no phone connected at the Centre so the Shire will need to be contacted for further information.

So if you are thinking about visiting the area and you would like more information on wildflowers or other toursit enquiries please contact the Shire Office on 9928 1102 or the Post Office on 9928 1081.
